Rydym yn mawr obeithio y gall eich plentyn ymuno â ni am y bore hwn ac fe edrychwn ymlaen yn fawr at eu croesawu i’n Canolfan Chweched.

We would like to invite all prospective Year 12 pupils to our Year 11 to 12 transition morning on Thursday, 9th July. This will be an excellent opportunity for students who plan to join us in September to see their friends again, meet some of the Sixth Form staff, and have a look around the Sixth Form Centre.

The plan for the day is as follows:

9:00 a.m. – Meet in Caffi Cain in the Sixth Form Centre.

9:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. – Tour of the Sixth Form Centre, meet some of our current Year 12 students, and participate in fun team-building activities.

Please arrange pick-up for 12:00 p.m.

We really hope your child can join us in the morning, and we very much look forward to welcoming them to our Sixth Form Centre.

Dear Parents, Carers, and Pupils,

As we approach the end of the school year, our calendar is packed with a fantastic variety of activities, trips, and events. Combined with the warmer summer weather, we want to ensure all our pupils remain as comfortable and focused as possible.

With this in mind, we have decided to allow all pupils the option to wear their full school PE kit to school every day until the end of the summer term, should they wish to do so.

• The Choice is Yours: Pupils can choose to wear either their standard school uniform OR their official school PE kit.
• Standards Remain: If pupils choose to wear their PE kit, it must be the official school kit (standard rules for school PE kit apply).
• Duration: This optional change is in place from now until the final day of term.

Message to Parents and Carers

We would like to reassure parents and carers that Ysgol Llanfyllin will be open as normal tomorrow for all pupils.

As a school, we recognise the important service we provide to our community, families and pupils. Having assessed conditions in classrooms and communal areas, the management team has decided that, whilst we are all experiencing much higher temperatures than normal, it is in the best interests of pupils and the wider community for the school to remain open.

Please ensure that your child comes to school with plenty of water and sunscreen. They may also bring a hat and sunglasses if they wish.

Diogelwch Dŵr.

Dyma nodyn atgoffa i bawb i fod yn ofalus iawn yn ystod y don wres hon wrth ymyl cyrff dŵr. Pan mae hi mor boeth â hyn, mae’n demtasiwn mawr i oeri yn y dŵr. Fodd bynnag, gall fod yn hynod beryglus nofio mewn afonydd, llynnoedd neu’r môr. Dim ond os ydych chi mewn ardal nofio ddiogel ddynodedig gydnabyddedig y dylech chi fynd i mewn i’r dŵr. Er ei bod hi’n boeth iawn, bydd tymheredd y dŵr yn dal i fod yn hynod oer a byddwch chi mewn perygl o brofi ‘sioc dŵr oer’ a all fod yn angheuol. Gall ceryntau dŵr hefyd fod yn hynod beryglus ac yn anweledig nes ei bod hi’n rhy hwyr.

Dysgwch y cod diogelwch dŵr

Mae Cymdeithas Achub Bywydau Frenhinol y DU (RLSS UK) yn hyrwyddo’r Cod Diogelwch Dŵr, sy’n cynnwys pedwar neges allweddol:

1. Stopiwch a meddyliwch – sylwch ar y peryglon.

2. Arhoswch gyda’ch gilydd – ewch gyda rhywun arall bob amser.

3. Arnofio – os byddwch chi’n cwympo i mewn, arnofiwch nes y gallwch chi reoli’ch anadlu.

4. Ffoniwch 999 – mewn argyfwng, ceisiwch gymorth ar unwaith.

Mae Sioc Dŵr Oer yn risg ddifrifol.

• Mae tymereddau dŵr isel yn achosi i’r corff fynd i ‘sioc dŵr oer’.

Defnyddiwch eich dwylo i’ch helpu i aros arnofio ac yna galwch am gymorth neu nofiwch i ddiogelwch os gallwch chi. Os gwelwch chi unrhyw un mewn trafferth yn y dŵr ffoniwch 999.

Water Safety.

This is a reminder to everyone to be very careful during this heatwave when near bodies of water. When it is this hot, it is very tempting to cool of in water.  However, it can be extremely dangerous to swim in rivers, lakes or the sea. You must only enter the water if you are in a recognised designated safe swimming area.  Although it is very hot, the water temperature will still be extremely cold and you will run the risk of experiencing ‘cold water shock’ which can be fatal.  Water currents can also be extremely dangerous and undetectable until it is too late.

Learn the water safety code

The Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK) promotes the Water Safety Code, which includes four key messages:

1. Stop and think – spot the dangers.
2. Stay together – always go with someone else.
3. Float – if you fall in, float until you can control your breathing.
4. Call 999 – in an emergency, get help immediately.

Cold Water Shock is a serious risk.

• Low water temperatures cause the body to go into ‘cold water shock’.
• It reacts to the cold water by drawing the blood away from muscles to protect the organs and making it difficult to move limbs.
• The cold water will make you gasp uncontrollably and breathe in water.
• Your heart will beat really fast, you’ll lose energy quickly and eventually your muscles will become paralysed.

However, with the right knowledge and preparation, it can be managed. Whether you’re a seasoned swimmer or just looking to cool off on a hot day, understanding how your body reacts to cold water, and knowing what to do, can make all the difference.

Enter the water slowly, take time to acclimatise and try to relax. If you get into trouble in the water, Float to Live. Tilt your head back with ears submerged and try to relax and control your breathing. Use your hands to help you stay afloat and then call for help or swim to safety if you can. If you see anyone in trouble in the water call 999.”

Clerk to the Governing Body
Grade 4  £ 13.26 per hour.
Term time only

The Governing body of Ysgol Llanfyllin is seeking to employ a Clerk to the Governing Body.  This is a part-time position and involves the following –

• Provide professional, impartial advice to the Governing Body on governance, constitutional, and procedural matters.
• Prepare and distribute agendas, papers, and reports in advance of meetings.
• Attend and minute all full governing body and committee meetings, ensuring accurate and timely records. 
• Maintain statutory records, policies, and registers in line with legal requirements.
• Manage correspondence on behalf of the Governing Body and liaise with the Headteacher, governors, and external stakeholders.
• Keep up to date with changes in legislation, guidance, and best practice in school governance.
• Support the recruitment, induction, and ongoing development of governors.

The meetings are held in the evenings, generally on Thursdays at 6pm. We average about 18 meetings per academic year and the length of the meetings vary from as little as one hour to, on some occasions two, two and a half hours. Currently, Full Governing Body meetings are in person while Committee meetings are via Teams. Hours would also be paid for time spent writing up the Minutes and a laptop will be provided.
