A New Curriculum for Ysgol Llanfyllin
Following a successful introduction of the Curriculum for Wales for pupils from the Foundation Phase to Year 7 in September 2022, we are excited to announce that from the summer half term 2023, we will be launching our new Tyfu Curriculum – to learn, grow and flourish together. The four purposes (shown below) of the Curriculum for Wales will be at the heart of the new Tyfu Curriculum, which is shaped to meet the needs of each individual child and to help them reach their full potential. Designed to challenge, stimulate curiosity, and promote a life-long love of learning, the curriculum is constantly evolving to reflect and meet the needs of our dynamic and ever-changing society. Our ‘Teulu’ ethos is at the heart of our curriculum encouraging collective responsibility, tolerance, and an open-minded approach that enables us to learn, grow and flourish together.
Elements of the new Curriculum for Wales
The Four Purposes
The four purposes will be at the heart of the Tyfu curriculum. Decisions on the content and experiences developed as part of the curriculum will support our children and young people to be:
- ambitious, capable learners ready to learn throughout their lives
- enterprising, creative contributors, ready to play a full part in life and work
- ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world
- healthy, confident individuals, ready to lead fulfilling lives as valued members of society.
Key Elements
The Tyfu curriculum will include:
- six Areas of Learning and Experience
- three cross curriculum responsibilities: literacy, numeracy and digital competence
The curriculum will be organised into six Areas of Learning and Experience:
- Expressive arts
- Health and well-being
- Humanities
- Languages, literacy and communication
- Mathematics and numeracy
- Science and technology
