Biography

I grew up in West Sussex where I was educated in a Church of England Comprehensive School. I studied BSc Agriculture at Aberystwyth University and worked for the Agricultural Advisory Service, Farming and Rural Conservation Agency, Rural Development Service and Natural England working with farmers, conservationists and Defra. I am now County Councillor for Llandrinio Ward. I have had three children who have been educated in the medium of Welsh at Llanfyllin Primary School and High School. Between the two schools I have been a governor for over 16 years including a spell as Acting Chair. I am particularly interested in ensuring that pupils are aware of the many and varied careers opportunities available to them and are encouraged to participate in a wide range of activities such as sport, music, drama which might help them find their ‘niche’.

Biography

My extensive teaching career began in 1977, working in various schools in the South Wales valleys until 1984. In 1985 I was appointed to a large inner-city school in Cardiff working with pupils from 3 to 11 with a focus on special needs. During my time in Cardiff, I was elected teacher governor. In 2006 I retired but was encouraged to return to work in a large special school in Penarth which is now called Ysgol Y Deri the largest Special School in Wales. In 2013 I made another attempt to retire and moved with my family to Powys. In October of that year, I began working in Ysgol Cedewain and had four years working with various pupils aged between 3 to 19. Finally, I took on a one-year contract at Llanfair Caereinion High School teaching food technology. Throughout my career I have had considerable experience of children with Additional Needs, and I am particular fond of working with pupils with ASD. During my last years in Special School, I was responsible for delivering many qualifications including English, Art and Food Technology. Although retired I still maintain an interest in education, and I am particularly keen to be of use to the school and its students and maybe make a contribution to the development of the additional needs Hub. Outside of education I am a keen hill walker and gardener.

Biography

I am a proud Welsh speaker that has lived in this beautiful part of Wales my entire life. I have many fond memories of attending both Llanfyllin Primary and High Schools, and now my eldest daughter happily attends Ysgol Llanfyllin, so I have a vested interest in its future.

My background is in teaching, and I am bringing my 15 years of experience in primary education to the Governing Body. I work in a local primary school, as a teacher and also in a leadership role, as Deputy Head. As well as being actively involved in many areas of school life, I also have responsibility for Additonal Learning Needs, Assessment, Safeguarding, Curriculum and Data.

In my role as a Parent Governor, I aim to support the school to continue providing the best possible education for each child, looking ahead to the challenges and opportunities in the future. I believe a good education that is broad and goes beyond the academic is fundamental to ensuring our children become the best versions of themselves.
