Cyfarfod Cymunedol i Amddiffyn Addysg Chweched Dosbarth yng Ngogledd Powys

Anogir rhieni, disgyblion a’r gymuned i ddod ynghyd yn Neuadd y Dref, Y Trallwng ar Ddydd Mawrth 23 Medi 2025 am 6pm i ddangos eu cefnogaeth i gadw’r chweched dosbarth yn Ysgol Llanfyllin ac Ysgol Uwchradd Y Trallwng ar agor.

Mae Dewi Owen, Pennaeth Ysgol Llanfyllin, yn galw ar y cyhoedd i sefyll yn erbyn cynigion Cyngor Sir Powys i gau’r canolfannau chweched dosbarth hanfodol hyn.

“Byddai cau ein chweched dosbarth yn ergyd ddinistriol i bobl ifanc Gogledd Powys. Byddai’n golygu ffoi myfyrwyr allan o’r sir, gan na fydd llawer yn derbyn teithiau hir a blinedig i Drefaldwyn bob dydd. O Lanrhaeadr yn unig, mae disgyblion yn wynebu taith un ffordd o tua 1 awr 30 munud ar drafnidiaeth gyhoeddus—mae hyn yn hollol annerbyniol. Mae ein pobl ifanc yn haeddu addysg leol o safon uchel ar eu stepen drws.”

Ar hyn o bryd, mae Penaethiaid a Llywodraethwyr yn datblygu model TRISGOL+ fel dewis amgen hyfyw ac uchelgeisiol yn lle cau. Byddai TRISGOL+ yn rhoi mynediad i fyfyrwyr at yr ystod lawn o gyrsiau academaidd a galwedigaethol ar draws tair campws ysgol, yn y Gymraeg a’r Saesneg. Mae’n adeiladu ar y bartneriaeth Trisgol lwyddiannus eisoes, gan gyfuno’r gorau o bob ysgol drwy gymysgedd o ddysgu wyneb yn wyneb a darpariaeth arloesol ar-lein.

Mae’r model hwn yn adlewyrchu’r ysbryd o gydweithio a darpariaeth sy’n canolbwyntio ar y dysgwr, fel y pwysleisia Medr ac Estyn yn eu fframweithiau. Mae’n cynnig cynaliadwyedd, dewis a pharhad—tra’n cadw addysg yn wreiddiedig yn ein cymunedau.

Mae’r neges yn glir: ni ddylai dyfodol addysg ôl-16 yng Ngogledd Powys gael ei lywio gan gau a chanoli. Yn hytrach, dylid ei gryfhau drwy bartneriaeth, arloesi ac arweinyddiaeth leol.

Community Meeting to Defend Sixth Form Education in North Powys

Parents, pupils and members of the community are urged to come together in Welshpool Town Hall on Tuesday 23rd September 2025 at 6pm to show their support for keeping the Sixth Forms at Ysgol Llanfyllin and Welshpool High School open.

Dewi Owen, Headteacher of Ysgol Llanfyllin, is calling on the public to stand against Powys County Council’s proposals to close these vital sixth form centres.

“Closing our sixth forms would be a devastating blow to the young people of North Powys. It would mean an exodus of students out of the county, as many will not accept long, exhausting journeys to Newtown each day. From Llanrhaeadr alone, pupils face a one-way public transport journey of around 1 hour 30 minutes—this is simply unacceptable. Our young people deserve local, high-quality education on their doorstep.”

At present, Headteachers and Governors are developing a TRISGOL+ model as a viable and ambitious alternative to closure. TRISGOL+ would give students access to the full range of academic and vocational courses across three school campuses, in both English and Welsh. It builds on the already successful Trisgol partnership, combining the very best of each school through a blend of face-to-face learning and innovative online provision.

This model reflects the spirit of collaboration and learner-centred provision that organisations such as Medr and Estyn emphasise in their frameworks. It offers sustainability, choice, and continuity—while keeping education rooted in our communities.

The message is clear: the future of post-16 education in North Powys must not be dictated by closure and centralisation. Instead, it should be strengthened through partnership, innovation and local leadership.
