Face coverings and schools

Visitors to Powys schools, including parents and carers dropping off and picking up children, should wear face coverings to keep themselves and others safe from coronavirus, the county council has said.

The Welsh Government issued updated operation guidance on the use of face coverings in schools and colleges across Wales.

The guidance now states that face coverings should be worn:

  • by visitors to all schools, including parents and carers dropping off and picking up children
  • in all areas outside the classroom by staff and learners in secondary schools and colleges
  • on dedicated school and college transport for learners in year 7 and up.

Powys County Council are reminding parents and carers as well as staff and learners to follow the updated guidance from the Welsh Government to keep themselves and others safe.

Cllr Phyl Davies, Cabinet Member for Education and Property, said: “Coronavirus is still a very real threat to public health and we must do everything we can to prevent its spread.

“Social distancing and washing hands remain the most important measures that everyone in Powys must continue to take. Wearing face coverings can complement these measures, ensuring we are doing everything we can to keep ourselves and others safe.

“We all have a part to play in helping to prevent the spread of coronavirus and keep each other safe. It is important that parents, school staff and learners follow the latest Welsh Government guidance to protect themselves and others.”
